Creation Process of Little Explorer

Motif of this pattern

Remember when we used to play pretend to be explorers when we were little on a daily basis? We discovered new corners of the playground – a wild jungle in kid’s talk, or some previously unexplored part of our street alias the danger zone.

When we grew up a little, we found new objects of our discoveries in the classroom or when skipping school. In our teens we explored first love, disappointment,… and we could go on and on like this. Life really is composed of discoveries both small and large.

The motif of this pattern, that I will be lovingly creating for you, is a boy with a magnifying glass exploring a little bug.  A cute and lovely painting that personally reminds me of happy childhood memories. In your hands it can be transformed into a long-lasting reminder of your life’s discoveries.

Creation Process

Today, I will let you take a peek and discover the creation process behind this pattern. For me alone it’s also a path of discovery and a search for how to best capture the facial expression, as in this case, the overall composition, the picture color pallet, and much more. I believe I was quite successful. The eyes wide in amazement, the red cheeks, raised eyebrows and the mouth slightly ajar all add an image of a discoverer to the young explorer.

The hair color toning was very challenging. His face and hair are very predominant and you notice them within the pattern at a first glance, so they have to be convincing. I can honestly say that they look very real.

The details, such as the explorer’s clothes, backpack and magnifying glass, all came about somehow spontneously. A red t-shirt and a blue backpack are typical traits of the young and curious.
